Elections for the European Parliament will take place on Thursday, 22 May 2014. Dutch nationals who have the right to vote and reside outside the Netherlands, first have to register before they can cast their vote for the coming elections. Registration is possible from 22 November 2013 through the website of the http://www.denhaag.nl/home/bewoners/gemeente/verkiezingen/kiezers-buitenland.htm.
A printed form must be sent in through mail or e-mail to the Municipality of The Hague.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is requesting the embassy and the consulates to make registration forms available for people who do not have access to the internet. The registration form is not yet available in .pdf format. I will forward this to you upon receipt.
For the first time, ballot papers will be sent to voters residing abroad by email. Furthermore, the Dutch government wants to make it easier for Dutch nationals living abroad to vote by not requiring them to register for every election. This will be made possible by a permanent registration of voters who reside outside the Netherlands. This will require a change of the Electoral Law (Kieswet). The aim is to change the law before the parliamentary elections that are due to be held in 2017.
